AI Writing Policy

Policy on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools

This policy applies to all submissions received by American Open Science Philosophy and its affiliated journals, including the American Journal of Business Science Philosophy.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools—including but not limited to large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT—in scholarly research and publication is increasing alongside rapid technological advancements. American Open Science Philosophy recognizes the potential benefits of AI tools while emphasizing research integrity, transparency, author accountability, and ethical publishing practices.

This policy is informed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) position statement on Authorship and AI Tools and reflects standards expected by international indexing databases, including Scopus.

1. Authorship and Responsibility

Artificial intelligence tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors under any circumstances. Authorship carries responsibility for the integrity of the work, accountability for its content, and the ability to manage copyright and licensing agreements—capabilities that AI tools do not possess.

All listed human authors assume full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript, including any content generated or assisted by AI tools.

2. Disclosure and Transparency

Authors who use AI tools at any stage of the research or publication process—including manuscript drafting, language editing, data analysis, coding, image generation, or statistical modeling—must clearly and transparently disclose such use.

Disclosure must include:

  • The name and version of the AI tool used;
  • The specific purpose for which the tool was used;
  • The extent and nature of the AI tool’s contribution.

This disclosure should be included in the Methods section, Acknowledgements, or a dedicated AI Use Statement within the manuscript.

3. Ethical Use and Data Integrity

Authors must ensure that the use of AI tools complies with ethical research and publication standards, including the protection of confidential or sensitive data, avoidance of plagiarism or data fabrication, and compliance with applicable intellectual property and data protection regulations.

AI tools must not be used in ways that compromise the originality, validity, or reproducibility of the research.

4. Editorial Oversight and Enforcement

The editors of American Open Science Philosophy and the American Journal of Business Science Philosophy reserve the right to request clarification regarding AI use and to reject, withdraw, or retract manuscripts if undisclosed, inappropriate, or unethical use of AI tools is identified at any stage of the publication process.

Failure to disclose the use of AI tools constitutes a breach of publication ethics and will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.

5. Policy Review

This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect evolving AI technologies, ethical standards, and indexing requirements. Submission of a manuscript implies that the authors have read, understood, and agreed to comply with this policy.
